SIEM REAP –China’s soybean imports are likely to stay unchanged at 35-36 million metric tons for the marketing year beginning Oct. 1, 2008 an analyst said at the 5th Southeast Asia US Agricultural Cooperators Conference Wednesday.

The soybean imports will remain unchanged because of expected gains in the soybean and rapeseed crops in 2008-09, said Thomas Mielke, who runs ISTA Mielke GmbH, a Hamburg-based consultancy firm.

He said China’s soybean crop in 2008-09 is expected to rise to 16.4 million tons from 13.8 million tons in 2007-08.
