PYONGYANG, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday was awarded a Guinness World Record certificate for holding the world’s largest-scale gymnastic and artistic performance “Arirang” in Pyongyang, the official news agency reported Thursday.

The certificate was handed to DPRK Vice Minister of Culture Song Sok Hwan by Wu Xiaohong, representative of the British-based Guinness World Records Ltd, at the May Day Stadium, reported the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

“I have never seen such peculiar work as the grand gymnastic and artistic performance ‘Arirang’ in any other countries,” Wu was quoted as saying by the KCNA.

“I marveled at the might of the unity of the Korean people while watching the performance” which involves 100,000 performers, Wu added.

Since its premiere in 2002, “Arirang” has been staged by now over 180 times and attracted more than 7 million audience.
