China earns nine spots in Olympic wrestling tournament

(BEIJING, June 6) – With all qualification competitions now complete, China has earned nine spots in the wrestling tournament of this summer’s Olympic Games.
Olympic spots have been mainly decided through the 2007 International Tournament, 2008 Continental Championships and two qualifying tournaments.
The Chinese women’s wrestling team gained seats in each wrestling class, qualifying for the 48kg, 63kg, and 72kg competitions through the 2007 International Tournament and the 55kg competition through the 2008 Asian Championships.
The Chinese men’s wrestling team gained one spot in the 60kg Freestyle Wrestling competition through the 2007 International Tournament and one ticket each to the 84kg Freestyle Wrestling and 74kg Greco-Roman wrestling competitions through the 2008 Asian Championships.
Gold medals in two qualifying tournaments earned spots for the Chinese men’s team in 120kg Freestyle Wrestling and 74kg Greco-Roman wrestling.
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Wrestling competition will take place at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium starting August 12.
