Dutch premier league champion PSV Eindhoven has recruited Mexican defender Francisco Rodriguez “Maza ” to boost its strengthen ahead of the 2008/9 UEFA Champions League.

The 26-year-old, whose nickname derives from his hometown Mazatlan and the Spanish word for sledgehammer, joins from CD Guadalajara Chivas on a contract until summer 2011, Dutch media reported on Friday.

He joins compatriot Carlos Salcido in the Dutch club.

“This is a big club and I am happy to be here,” Maza said. “Football is at a very high level here. I have to get used to that, but that is a huge challenge. It’s a dream come true to play in the Champions League next season.” (Xinhua)
