Kenya’s Maritim wins 4th straight Sydney Marathon

SYDNEY, Australia (AP)—Kenya’s Julius Maritim won his fourth straight Sydney Marathon on Sunday, finishing five minutes ahead of countryman Benson Mbithi.

Australia’s Lisa Flint won the women’s division.

Maritim finished in 2 hours, 19 minutes, 1 second. Mbithi improved on his seventh-place finish in the Los Angeles Marathon in March. Australia’s Jeremey Horne was third in a race run in temperatures of about 70 degrees.

Flint ran a personal best of 2:47:43 in her fourth marathon.

The 26.2-mile marathon route featured the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the only day of the year it is closed to traffic.
