African women’s handball: Angola wins by large margin

(BEIJING, January 16) — Angola beat Tunisia 44-26 and Cote d’Ivoire defeated Congo 29-28 in the women’s semifinals of the African Handball Tournament held in Angola on the morning of January 16, 2008 (Beijing time).
Angola’s handball team is one of the strongest in Africa. The team took seventh place in the Handball World Championships in 2007, the only African team that entered the top eight.
In the preliminary sessions, Angola went undefeated to enter the semifinals. Angola defeated Tunisia by 18 points on Wednesday, showcasing their strength again and becoming the favorite team to claim the championship title.
In the competition for the seventh place, Cameroon overpowered Gabon 25-22. With this result, Cameroon is ranked seventh and Gabon eighth.
