Willard sets US record in 3,000-meter steeplechase

EUGENE, Ore. (AP)—Anna Willard has set an American record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

Willard finished in 9 minutes, 27.59 seconds Thursday night, besting Lisa Galaviz’s record of 9:28.75 set last year.

Lindsey Anderson and Jennifer Berringer finished second and third to earn spots on the Olympic team.
