Vancouver doping lab to be in venue

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)—A multimillion-dollar anti-doping lab for the 2010 Winter Olympics will be built inside one of the venues itself.

Organizing committee officials said Wednesday building the state-of-the-art lab inside the speed-skating arena in Richmond helps meet all the lab’s requirements as set out by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The lab will cost nearly $5 million, slightly more than the $4.1 million organizers had budgeted.

The facility will be run by staff from the only lab in Canada currently accredited by the world agency, located in Montreal.

Organizers will also recruit 500 volunteers to act as doping control officers.
