U.S. team for 2008 Olympics announced

(BEIJING, June 27) –- The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced on June 26 the roster for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Tennis Team.

On the women’s side, the singles players are Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport, all of whom are former Olympic gold medalists. Liezel Huber and Davenport will team up, as will the Williams sisters, to represent the U.S. in Women’s Doubles.

On the men’s side, the singles players are James Blake, Sam Querrey and Robby Ginepri, who are all going to the Olympics for the first time. World No. 1 Bob and Mike Bryan will join Blake and Querrey in representing the U.S. in the Men’s Doubles competition.

Andy Roddick, a former world No. 1, announced that he would be absent from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Coach Zina Garrison is confident of this strong squad’s chances of winning medals in Beijing.
