OLYMPIC VILLAGE (OV)

Pre-opening: July 20, 2008 (only for the Beijing OV)

Official Opening: July 27

Official Closing: August 27

FINA TECHNICAL DELEGATES

FINA has appointed Dale Neuburger (USA) for swimming, Eldon C. Godfrey (CAN) for diving, Guillermo Martinez (CUB) for water polo, Gennady Aleshin (RUS) for synchronised swimming, and Nory Krutchen (LUX) for marathon swimming 10km.

OTHER TECHNICAL OFFICIALS

The International Olympic Committee approved the number of 187 International Technical Officials (31 for Juries of Appeal, 34 for swimming, 17 for marathon swimming, 31 for diving, 40 for water polo, 28 for synchronised swimming and 6 medical officers) and 56 National Technical Officials (13 for swimming, 8 for marathon swimming, 9 for diving, 20 for water polo and 6 for synchronised swimming).

TRAINING OF NTO

Five training courses of National Technical Officials (NTO) for aquatics with 128 participants were held during last year: one for swimming (38 participants), one for diving (27), one for synchronised swimming (33) and two for water polo (30).

COMPETITION VENUES

National Aquatics Centre (or Water Cube) to be completed in October 2007, for swimming, diving and synchronised swimming. Seats: 11,000. 2.5 km from Olympic Village.

Ying Tung Natatorium for water polo. Its renovation will be finished in August 2007. Seats: 6,000. 3.2 km from the Olympic Village.

Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park finished last May, for Marathon swimming (10km), Seats: 12,000. 40 km from the Olympic Village.

TESTS EVENTS

1. February 1-5, 2008 Swimming

Title: “Good Luck Beijing” Swimming China Open

Venue: National Aquatic Centre (Games-time competition venue)

32 Events:

- Freestyle: 50m men and Women, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m (women only) and 1,500m (men only)

- For backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly 100 and 200m

- Individual medley: 200 and 400m

- Relays: 4×100m, 4×200m and 4×100 medley.

Entry: For each individual event, each National Federation may enter a maximum of two competitors, regardless of standards. There is no limit for the host federation.

2. February 19-25, 2008 - Diving

Title: 16th FINA Diving World Cup

Venue: National Aquatic Centre (Games-time competition venue)

8 Events: Men/Women 3m springboard, 10m platform, synchronised 3m springboard and synchronised 10m platform

3. March 18-23, 2008 (men’s women’s water polo)

Title: “Good Luck Beijing” Water Polo China Open

Venue: Ying Tung Natatorium (Games-time competition venue)

Entry: Four teams for men’s competition and four for women’s

4. April 16-20, 2008 - Synchronised Swimming

Title: Olympic Games Synchronised Swimming Qualification Tournament

Venue: National Aquatic Centre (Games-time competition venue)

Event: Duet and Team

Entry: Each National Federation may enter ten swimmers for one duet and one team event.

5. May 31-June 1, 2008 - Marathon Swimming

Title: Marathon Swimming Qualification

Venue: Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park (Games-time competition venue)

Event: Men and women 10km Marathon Swimming
