MATURIN, Venezuela, July 8 (Xinhua) — Mexico continues as soccer favorite in the Copa America being played in Venezuela with its convincing 6-0 quarter-final victory over Paraguay Sunday afternoon.

Mexican striker Nery Castillo scored two goals in minute five and 38 and Gerardo Torrado scored one in minute 25, Fernando Arce in minute 78 and Cuauhtemoc Blanco in minute 86 with a penalty shot and Omar Bravo in minute 90.

So far Mexico has accomplished the highest amount of goals in one game in this Copa America at the monumental stadium of Maturin,512 km east of Caracas.

Mexico was convincing and took advantage of the numerical superiority after Paraguay’s goali Aldo Bobadilla was expelled in minute three of play.

Mexico will play the semifinal on Wednesday in Puerto Ordaz against the Argentina-Peru winner, which will be played Sunday night at Barquisimeto.
