(BEIJING, August 15) — Three teams go into the fourth day of competition with targets on their backs in the Men’s Water Polo at the Yingdong Natatorium, with Croatia, Hungary and Montenegro remaining as the only unbeaten teams of the tournament.
Croatia will take on the United States looking for a fourth consecutive victory in group B.
Croatia is the only team with a perfect record and the world champions are expected to take the game to the US team. The United States have two wins and are gunning to make the top three in the group.
Germany and Italy open the day’s play in group B. With one win apiece, both are struggling to stay with the big boys, needing wins in the last two preliminary-round days to have a chance of advancing.
World League champion Serbia faces China in the final match of the day. Though having a quiet run in Beijing 2008, they should be too strong for China who has yet to win a match.
In group A, European champion Montenegro is unbeaten and is fancied to topple World No. 3 Spain, who has two wins from three games.
Hungary is comfortably placed alongside Montenegro with two wins and a draw. Their clash with Australia will be interesting. The slow-starting Aussies need to hit the Hungarians hard early if they have any chance at all of gaining a third win.
Canada and Greece play in the first group A match of the day. Both are looking for their first success in the pool.
